I like knowing how the things I depend on work.

I'm Ólafur Búi Ólafsson. I build and run my own infrastructure because the work gets more interesting once the diagram meets a real machine.

Most of what I write is Rust. I care about software that fails loudly, recovers cleanly, and does not need babysitting. That has led me into native desktop clients, sync engines, identity, mail, networking, monitoring, and the services connecting them.

This site is part portfolio and part working notebook. I use the journal for training material, build logs, practical guides, and video walkthroughs. The useful details stay in: commands, tradeoffs, failures, and the fix that finally held.
